The effectiveness of phytotherapy in the treatment of wounds

Abstract

Objective: to analyze the effectiveness of phytotherapy in treating wounds, according to scientific literature. Method: bibliographic review carried out between June and December 2023 in the advanced form of the Virtual Health Library (VHL), in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and Google Scholar. For collection, two search structures were used, using keywords, phytotherapy: 1) curated nursing AND medicinal plants; and 2) nursing AND health AND herbal medicines. Results: The scientific literature reports the use of herbal medicines with different therapeutic periods, some of which are of established use and belong to the Brazilian pharmacopoeia6 The medicinal potential of a species is due to the presence of active principles capable of producing different pharmacological effects, such as analgesics , antiseptics, diuretics, expectorants, calming, digestive, healing, emollients, antidiarrheals, among others. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the use of phytotherapy contributes to providing support and assisting in wound healing, the aforementioned integrative practice, due to its diverse therapeutic properties, promotes comfort and well-being, reduces the severity levels of the wound, contributing to the improvement of the place, but studies on aspects of application, use, dosage and side effects of herbal medicines need to be examined.
